A Vase
in the Frame

An abstract sculpture suspended between painting and object, holding a vase within its frame.

Year / 2022

Medium / Wool

This piece began with a simple question: what if the vase inside a painting could actually be touched and felt?

Using wool felt, Pon blurs the line between painting and sculpture, bringing a vase that would normally exist only on a flat surface into three‑dimensional form, held within its frame. The vase's outline, color, and texture intentionally retain a painterly, abstract quality — sitting somewhere between a sculpture and a painting that hasn't quite dried.

For Pon, this work is an experiment in framing: what does an object lose when it's placed within a fixed boundary — and what new identity might it gain in return?
